snowball '07 - show your moves
Snowball Classic comes back this year with a bit of a different layout and scheduling! This year, the Vancouver Sheraton Wall Centre was the home of the dazzling international ballroom dance competition held by Dance Sport BC. From February 8-10, 2007, dancers visit Vancouver from all over the world, including Germany, States, Slovenia our home Vancouver and much more!
Albert and I had the opportunity to grab standing positions and watch wonderful touching dances by competitors decked out in thousands of dollar outfits. Because of the new venue this year, organizers were able to slip in a few slots of General Dancing. This meant that even audience jumped onto the floor and showed their moves! When people really became comfortable with their feet, you might even catch younger ones with elderly ones!
A bit cozier than last year but definitely a warming welcome from Sheraton employees. However, if I have one recommendation, it would be to drop parking costs! I was dropped off outside of the entrance for the Grand Ballroom where the Snowball was being held and I asked a valet boy what the parking prices were and he told me that prices were hanging on the other side of Sheraton! Wow, I thought. I almost grabbed someone from Customer Services! Imagine asking your customers to look carefully again at the price tag of item being sold!
Anyway, I told Albert not to park there because that attitude definitely was not deserved but after 35 minutes of driving around, Albert gave in to parking at the Sheraton for $26 bucks. Can you believe that? First, Downtown’s meters are being raised to about $5/hour and worse, hotels are jacking up their prices. Alright, no more about parking; this is slowly turning into more of a rant.
Back to the Snowball Classic; I am unhappy to say that this dance competition deserves a little bit more media attention! If only they could see the talent…
So if anyone is hoping to find a nice dance floor to practice their moves, come out to the Vancouver Sheraton Wall Centre and buy a ticket to the Snowball Classic. I promise you that this will definitely be worth your money. It’s like a two in one being able to dance on the floor and experience competitive dancing as well. You never know, you might even pick up a partner…
